Lesson is a spell type, a subtype seen exclusively on instants and sorceries. It was introduced in Strixhaven: School of Mages. It is closely connected to the Learn mechnic

When learning you may reveal a Lesson card from outside the game and put it into your hand. There is a wide variety of Lesson cards to represent a wide variety of areas of study (e.g. Token generation, removal, card draw, etc.).

If you want, you can also play a Lesson card in your deck, but in that circumstance it can't be fetched by learning.
