General trivia

Allusions

Most of the cards in Time Spiral were inspired by cards from Magic's past.[2][3][4] The following Points of Interest attempt to identify these inspirations for the non-Timeshifted cards.

Academy Ruins Tolarian Academy, Volrath's Stronghold Academy Ruins shows what happened to the Tolarian Academy years later. Its activated ability is the blue version of Volrath's Stronghold.
Aether Web Web Aether Web is a 2-mana Web that grants an equal pump to both power and toughness than just toughness and also grants the enchanted creature the ability to block creatures with shadow.
Aetherflame Wall Wall of Diffusion, Wall of Fire Aetherflame Wall has 1 less toughness in exchange for being able to do both what Wall of Diffusion and Wall of Fire can do.
Amrou Scout Amrou Kithkin, Ramosian Lieutenant Amrou Scout's activated tutor ability has the number 3 on it similar to the power of creatures who can't block Amrou Kithkin and the mana value of the creatures Ramosian Lieutenant can tutor. Its ability refers to other Rebel creatures from the Masques block.
Amrou Seekers Amrou Kithkin, Seeker Kithkins who can't be blocked by certain creatures. Amrou Seekers' evasion ability is similar to Seeker as if a Kithkin was already enchanted by said aura.
Ancestral Vision Ancestral Recall An Ancestral Recall that has you wait 4 turns to get its ability.
Ancient Grudge Shatter, Ray of Revelation Ancient Grudge is Shatter with Ray of Revelation's flashback cost. Flavor text refers to Fires of Yavimaya.
Angel's Grace Worship, Platinum Angel Angel's Grace grants one turn worth of Worship and Platinum Angel's abilities. Its artwork is similar to Worship's.
Ashcoat Bear Grizzly Bears Ashcoat Bear is a Grizzly Bears with Flash.
Aspect of Mongoose Blurred Mongoose, Nimble Mongoose, Aspect of Wolf Aspect of Mongoose gives the enchanted shroud similar to the two mongeese. Its name is similar to Aspect of Wolf
Assassinate Royal Assassin Assassinate is Royal Assassin's activated ability in instant form.
Assembly-Worker Mishra's Factory, Mishra's Workshop Assembly-Worker is Mishra's Factory already being a creature with its mana cost being equal to the mana produced by Mishra's Workshop.
Barbed Shocker Shocker A bigger Shocker with trample and haste.
Basal Sliver Basal Thrull Basal Sliver grants other Slivers Basal Thrull's ability without having to tap itself.
Basalt Gargoyle Granite Gargoyle A 3/2 Granite Gargoyle with echo.
Benalish Cavalry Name refers to Benalia.
Blazing Blade Askari Burning Shield Askari, Searing Spear Askari, Raging Spirit 2/2 human knights with flanking. Blazing Blade Askari can become colorless similar to Raging Spirit.
Bogardan Hellkite Name refers to Bogardan and the hellkite Dragons.
Bogardan Rager Name refers to Bogardan and flavor text refers to Beasts of Bogardan.
Bonesplitter Sliver Bonesplitter Bonesplitter Sliver pumps other Slivers equal to Bonesplitter's pump ability
Brass Gnat Brass Man Cheap 1-mana artifact creatures made of brass who need to be paid {1} to be untapped.
Brine Elemental Water Elemental Brine Elemental has Water Elemental's stats with morph and an extra ability connected to its morph ability.
Calciform Pools, Dreadship Reef, Molten Slagheap, Fungal Reaches, Saltcrusted Steppe Ability refers to storage land cycles.
Call to the Netherworld Raise Dead Reanimation spells. Call to the Netherworld's free madness cost makes up for its narrower list of creatures to choose from than Raise Dead's. Flavor text refers to horrors and Pit Spawn.
Cancel Counterspell Basic counterspells, where Cancel is slightly more expensive due to 2-mana counterspells already being too strong. Cancel would be a counterspell replacement in Core Sets.
Candles of Leng Library of Leng, Jayemdae Tome Candles of Leng's ability is the reverse of Library of Leng's. Its activated ability is Jayemdae Tome's on a condition. Flavor text refers to Tolaria and Archivist.
Careful Consideration Flavor text refers to Jhoira and Teferi.
Castle Raptors Castle Castle Raptors increases its own toughness when untapped similar to how Castle would do to untapped creatures. Artwork refers to the Aven.
Celestial Crusader Crusade Crusade on a stick.
Chameleon Blur Flavor text refers to Freyalise.
Children of Korlis Martyrs of Korlis Children of Korlis's name and flavor text refer to Martyrs of Korlis. Its ability refers to the bodyguard ability of the Martyrs.[5]
Chromatic Star Chromatic Sphere Chromatic Star does the same thing as Chromatic Sphere except its drawing ability is a triggered ability than an activated one.
Chronatog Totem Chronatog An artifact that becomes a Chronatog.
Chronosavant Necrosavant[6], Chronatog Chronosavant's name, mana value, artwork, ability, and power/toughness refers to Necrosavant. Its turn-skipping ability brings to mind Chronatog.
Clockwork Hydra Spitting Hydra Hydras who enter the battlefield with four +1/+1 counters on it and can remove one of them at a time to deal 1 damage to any target.
Cloudchaser Kestrel Cloudchaser Eagle, Aven Cloudchaser, Aurora Griffin Birds who destroy target enchantment upon entering the battlefield. The kestrel can change any permanent into white similar to the griffin.
Coal Stoker Priest of Gix, Coal Golem In design, Coal Stoker adds {R}{R}{R}{R} similar to how Priest of Gix does it, but that proved to be powerful. Upon being printed, its name and the amount of {R} it produces refers to Coal Golem.
Conflagrate Meteor Shower, Firecat Blitz Conflagrate deals damage with a cost similar to Meteor Shower's. Its flashback cost is similar to Firecat Blitz's.
Coral Trickster Coral Merfolk, Twiddle A Coral Merfolk with morph that causes Twiddle. The first letter of each word of Coral Trickster's flavor text spells out Twiddle.
Corpulent Corpse Gluttonous Zombie A Gluttonous Zombie with suspend.
Crookclaw Transmuter Crookclaw Elder, Transmutation Crookclaw Trasmuter is less tougher than Crookclaw Elder and can cast Transmutation upon entering the battlefield.
Curse of the Cabal Braids, Cabal Minion Curse of the Cabal's sacrificing ability is similar to Braids, Cabal Minion's. Its name refers to the Cabal. Its artwork refers to the Grand Coliseum.
