Mark Rosewater gave his traditional teaser with the following hints.[7]
First up, here are some things you can expect:
- a returning mechanic that feels apropos for D&D makes use of a new card type — Adventures; now on artifacts.
- a card capable of making an Ox, Boar, or Goat — Contraband Livestock
- the word “seven” appears on two cards and the word “nine” appears on one — Raggadragga, Goreguts Boss (seven); Nothic (seven); Nine-Fingers Keene (nine)
- a new legendary colorless artifact token named Volo’s Journal — Volo, Itinerant Scholar
- a 10/10 creature with flying and trample that you can cast for G — Earthquake Dragon
- a lord for Demons, Devils, Imps, and Tieflings — Raphael, Fiendish Savior
- the character we got a lot of complaints about not being in Adventures in the Forgotten Realms gets a card — Elminster
- three legendary creatures that are Gods — The Dead Three: Bhaal, Lord of Murder; Myrkul, Lord of Bones; Bane, Lord of Darkness
- a card that enhances all creatures with mana abilities — Raggadragga, Goreguts Boss
- a spell that can copy something X times — Storm King's Thunder (The next instant/sorcery you cast)
Next, here are some rules text that will be showing up on cards:
- “This spell costs 1 less to cast for each opponent you’re attacking.” — Astral Confrontation
- “That artifact becomes a 0/0 Homunculus artifact creature with flying.” — Kenku Artificer
- “Whenever you cast a spell you don’t own,” — Tasha, the Witch Queen
- “If you control neither creature, draw three cards.” — Modify Memory
- “you don’t lose the game for having 0 or less life.” — Pact Weapon
- “Tokens you control have ‘T:” — Jaheira, Friend of the Forest
- “Then choose a third player” — Gluntch, the Bestower
- “where X is the total mana value of Dragons you control.” — Earthquake Dragon
- “put a number of time counters on it equal to its mana value.” — Alaundo the Seer
- “you may cast your commander from the command zone without paying its mana cost.” — Geode Golem

- There is a card that grants protection from creatures — Seasoned Dungeoneer
- There's a creature with the type Crab Ooze Horror — Uchuulon
- There's an enchantment that can, if you build your deck properly, give all your creatures undying — Haunted One
- There's a green member of a cycle we saw started in a previous commander product — Venture Forth
- There's a card with a replicate cost that isn't mana — Psionic Ritual- "Tap an untapped Horror you control."
- There's a card with an ability which begins "Whenever a goaded attacking or blocking creature dies..." — Baeloth Barrityl, Entertainer
- There's a card we didn't do in Adventures in the Forgotten Realms that I've been asked for repeatedly. And no, it's not a Legend! — Artificer Class
- There is a creature with five creature types — Burakos, Party Leader
- There is a card that has an ability which begins "Whenever a nonland permanent an opponent owns enters the battlefield..." — Brainstealer Dragon
- A card named Delayed Blast Fireball was not in our first D&D Magic Set, but you'll find it in these Commander Decks — Delayed Blast Fireball
