Dominaria United/Trivia
Mark Rosewater gave his traditional teaser with the following hints.[1]
First up, here are some things you can expect:
- a new evergreen counter — Stun counter
- a popular planeswalker card gets a reprint — Liliana of the Veil
- a blue card with “destroy all creatures” — The Phasing of Zhalfir
- a five mana value creature that can be a 10/10 — Territorial Maro
- three original Weatherlight crew members are in the set — Squee (Squee, Dubious Monarch); Ertai (Ertai Resurrected); Karn (Karn, Living Legacy)
- an ability word that didn’t start as an ability word returns — Domain
- rare cycle of +1/+1 granting lords — Valiant Veteran; Vodalian Hexcatcher; Shadow-Rite Priest; Rundvelt Hordemaster; Leaf-Crowned Visionary
- a card that grants poison — Ajani, Sleeper Agent
- a new artifact with Lotus in the name — Timeless Lotus
- a character players have been requesting get a card for years finally gets one — The Raven Man
Next, here are some rules text that will be showing up on cards:
- “As long as enchanted creature is legendary” — Combat Research
- “You may exile an instant or sorcery with mana value X or less from among them.” — Keldon Flamesage
- “exile each nonland permanent with mana value 2 or less” — Temporary Lockdown
- “Enchantment creatures you control have” — Zur, Eternal Schemer
- “if X is 3 or less” — Silver Scrutiny
- “For each opponent who doesn’t, that player loses 2 life and you draw a card.” — Braids, Arisen Nightmare
- “instant or sorcery card with mana value 1 or 2” — Founding the Third Path
- “Pay any amount of mana.” — Karn, Living Legacy
- “Vehicles you control have crew 1.” — Astor, Bearer of Blades
- “where X is the number of legendary creatures you control.” — Jodah, the Unifier
Finally, here are some creature type lines in the set:
- Creature – Dryad Warrior — Quirion Beastcaller

- Creature – Elf Archer (in red) — Meria's Outrider
- Creature – Lhurgoyf — Urborg Lhurgoyf

- Legendary Creature – Viashino Warlock — Rivaz of the Claw
- Legendary Creature – Phyrexian Merfolk Wizard — Vohar, Vodalian Desecrator
Callbacks
Other
- The Insect token used with Xira, the Golden Sting depicts another Eumidian.
- Serra Paragon, with the rules before release, does not exactly work as planned. The intent of the reanimation ability was that the returned permanent could be reused once and exiled once it dies. However, the phrasing made it so that when cast the "exile" ability exists only on the stack, and when the permanent resolves it should theoretically lose said ability as a new object on the battlefield. The rules were modified upon release to address this.
- The Painlands had the unusual 6-4 split due to an unusual set of circumstances. Ironically, despite being on Dominaria, The Brothers' War's timeframe had not yet dubbed three of the lands in Adarkar, Karplusan and Yavimaya, so they could not be printed in that set. As these were mixed allied and enemy, and missing black, Caves of Koilos and Sulfurous Springs would make up the rest. This would normally leave two sets of redistributed cycles, but Play Design found Shivan Reef important enough to need printing a set earlier. As the five printed were already mismatched between ally and enemy, it was approved to do so, resulting in the odd split.[4]
