Also unlike Elves vs. Goblins, which were tribal theme decks, the constituent decks, Jace and Chandra, are decks with a slower control deck with counterspells and a fast aggro strategy with burn spells, respectively.

Jace vs. Chandra is loosely based on the webcomic Fuel for the Fire, in which Jace and Chandra fight for possession of a magical scroll containing a map with the location of a powerful fire spell.[6][7][8]

Much later, in the webcomic Awakenings,[9] Jace and Chandra arrive at the Eye at almost the same time. This time, however, they team up and use the spell Ghostfire to defeat Sarkhan Vol.[10]
