Tuomo Nieminen is a Finnish former professional player and National Champion. He played in Pro Tours and Grand Prix between 1997 and 2007, finishing 1 pro-point short of qualifying for the Hall of Fame ballot.
Playing Career
Nieminen played at every Pro Tour event between Pro Tour Chicago in 2000 and Pro Tour New Orleans in 2001. However, he was unable to attend the next tournament, 2002's Pro Tour San Diego, which he was also qualified for. Instead, he was required to complete 9 months of compulsory Military Service at home in Finland.
After completing his service, Nieminen turned his focus towards the Finnish National Championships. He spent 6 months preparing for this event to ensure he'd make the team for the 2003 World Championships, settling on playing the Wake deck in Standard. Nieminen was successful in this ambition, losing to Tomi Walamies in the Grand Final. He would register the same Wake Deck at Worlds, recording his best result of 3rd in the individual competition and 2nd in the team competition.[1]
