The Mountain is a volcano and one of the holiest sites in Keld on Dominaria. It houses the secret of fire magic learned by all doyens, and all Keldons who are to become warlords go through a trial on the slopes of the Mountain as they ascend to the summit without any provided food. The colos near the top of the Mountain is the only source of sustenance, and packs of wolves are a threat to any who attempt the climb.[1]
History
The first doyen Kradak ascended to the summit of the Mountain upon his arrival in what would become Keld after fleeing the deadly cold of Parma. Here he learned the secret of fire magic, which would sustain his people, and formed a pact with the first doyenne, Jezal, to establish the rules of Keldon society.[1]
Around 4167 AR, the runner Astor successfully climbed the Mountain, surviving hunger, cold, and a wolf attack to reach the summit and become a warlord of Keld.[1]
The the wake of the Phyrexian Invasion of Dominaria and the Temporal crisis of Dominaria, the founding site of Keld is still mostly unchanged. The huge peak still stands as a testament to the ferocity and resilience of Keld itself. During the decades after the Mending, Keldons have expanded the cavern structure inside the Mountain to allow for more space, which lets them put their dead in that sacred space in place of the Keldon Necropolis of old.[2]
