The theocratic kingdom of Parma is one of the northern Domains of Dominaria, neighbouring Keld on the continent of Icehaven.[1][2] The cold land is home to the Northern Paladins and Frost Giants.[3]

History

Parma's history is little-known, but it is mentioned in the Book of Tal, and as such probably dates back to The Dark Age or earlier. The people of Parma believe that the hardship of their environment is a spiritual purifier that winnows out the weak and strengthens the worthy.[4] The Northern Paladins travel throughout the Domains spreading their society's central teaching.

At the time of the Brothers' War, Keldons were driven from Parma by the cold. This led to the foundation of Keld on the opposite side of Icehaven. As cold as Keld can get, Parma is colder, and the Keldons had to learn the secret of fire magic to survive in their new land.[5]

Parma's culture survived the first Phyrexian Invasion of Dominaria, and eventually came into conflict with Radha and the folk of Keld and Skyshroud. The warlord led her host of Gathans and Keldon survivors there to kill ice giants, frost elementals, and winter spirits in the hopes of lessening Keld's bitter frost. After her campaign, she returned to Keld.[6]

Trivia

  • The northern paladin Bardo spoke with a Scandinavian-like accent, substituting 'w' for 'v' and 'th' for 't', using words like "vizards" and "nort" for "wizards" and "north".[7] His deity was represented by a winged staff in red.[8]
