The Sword Marches, known to the Fallaji as the Suwwardi Marches, was the most contested area of land on Terisiare leading up to the Brothers' War.

History

Traditionally Fallaji land along the Mardun river, was conquered by the Warlord of Kroog and annexed into Yotia, although the Fallaji never gave up their ancestral claims to the land. The dispute over the Sword Marches was critical in the failure of both the Peace Summit at Korlinda and the Peace Talks at Kroog, directly attributing to the start of the Brothers' War.[1]

This region was the first to fall to the Fallaji, and even after the Liberation of Yotia, the Sword Marches remained under tentative Fallaji control. The fighting there continued through the war and was so heavy that by 55 AR, the Sword Marches were a field of blackened glass, completely unlivable. By this time, it had long lost its strategic significance, as the war had escalated far beyond a border squabble.[1]

After the Start of the Ice Age, the wastes that had previously been the Sword Marches froze over and became part of the much larger Adarkar Wastes. After the Flooding of Terisiare, it was mostly submerged beneath the Sea of Laments.
