The campaign storyline for Magic Duels: Oath of the Gatewatch picks up where the Battle for Zendikar campaign ended. The Gatewatch are faced with the emergence of the Eldrazi Titan Kozilek.[1]
There are five matches with preconstructed decks against a series of computer-controlled opponents. Unlike previous campaigns, the decks all consist of 60 cards from the beginning.
First mission
In the first match of the campaign, the player takes the role of Planeswalker Nissa, piloting a monogreen deck. The computer controls a typal Eldrazi deck.
“ | The Planeswalkers Gideon, Jace, and Nissa have trapped the Eldrazi titan Ulamog using a field of hedrons. But the trap breaks open unexpectedly, and a second titan, Kozilek, bursts from beneath the earth. As the Eldrazi titans and their spawn pour into the city of Sea Gate, Nissa and her comrades rush to its defense.[2] | ” |

Second mission
The second match of the campaign is different from all the ones before it, as the player takes control of an antagonist character: the Demonic Ob Nixilis. The computer plays as Nissa.
“ | The failure of the hedron trap was no accident. Hiding beneath Sea Gate, the demon Ob Nixilis siphoned away the power of the hedrons to reignite his Planeswalker spark. After eons, he is finally free of his imprisonment. But he is not free of his rage. He seeks revenge against the nature mage who nearly spoiled his plans. It is time for the tables to turn.[2] | ” |

Eldrazi Brood.
“ | The four Planeswalkers emerge to a ravaged landscape teeming with Eldrazi. On the horizon, the two Eldrazi titans approach. The Planeswalkers struggle to stand their ground and rally the fleeing. The player always starts with one of each of the "Oath of" enchantments in their hand, and an Emblem which automatically puts a Planeswalker into play every few turns. The four Planeswalkers cannot be drawn from the deck normally, they only come into play through this emblem.
The computer-controlled Eldrazi deck starts with 40 life and an emblem which replaces its normal card draw with a guaranteed Waste and non-land card each turn.
“ | The Eldrazi titans, Ulamog and Kozilek, loom over the group of Planeswalkers known as the Gatewatch. To have any hope of overcoming two of the Multiverse’s greatest threats, the Planeswalkers will need to coordinate their attacks. This battle will require the strength of the entire Gatewatch—and their allies.[2] | ” |
