MTGO Spellgrounds
MTGO Spellgrounds is a weekly phantom preconstructed event held on Magic Online.[1] Events happen each week, other than in weeks when a Preview League is running. Players can play three best-of-three matches for free between Monday and Wednesday, or pay to enter the associated Gauntlet event to earn prizes. Each event has six decks taken from recent mid and premier-level tournaments. Players are randomly offered three of these decks to choose from.
May 2025 Events
Legacy
The inaugural Spellgrounds event was Legacy and originally scheduled to be held May 5 to 7, 2025. The decklists were uploaded to Moxfield the Friday prior, but the event itself was delayed due to technical issues.[2]
In the May 13, 2025 Weekly Announcements post, Magic Online stated that Spellgrounds would now debut on May 27, 2025, with the Modern format event originally scheduled for that week. The status of the Legacy and Standard events, which were to have preceded Modern, was not mentioned.[3]

Standard
The second Spellgrounds event was originally scheduled for May 12-14, 2025, but was delayed due to technical issues with the inaugural event.[2] The format was set to be Standard.
Modern
There was no Spellgrounds event planned for the week of May 19, 2025, so the third occurrence was originally scheduled between May 26 to 28, 2025.[2] The format was Modern. This timeframe was confirmed in the May 13, 2025 Weekly Announcement.[3]
On May 24, 2025 the MTGO Bluesky account announced that the first Spellgrounds event had gone live early,[4][5] also sharing the June event schedule in reply to a comment.

Duel Commander
A Duel Commander Showgrounds event was originally scheduled to be held from June 23, 2025.[4][6] However, this was cancelled due to technical issues.[7] No decklists were posted to the MTGO Moxfield account.
As there was no planned Showgrounds the following week due to the premier of a new Vintage Cube, the next phantom preconstructed event would be Pioneer on July 7, 2025.
