Midweek Magic: Gladiator Spotlight

The inaugural Spellgrounds event was a phantom preconstructed originally scheduled to be held May 5 to 7, 2025 on Magic: The Gathering Online[1]. Players would be randomly offered three decks out of six Legacy decks taken from recent mid and premier-level tournaments to play three free best-of-three matches.

Scheduling

The decklists were uploaded to the MTGO Moxfield account the Friday prior, as planned, but the event itself was delayed due to technical issues[2].

In the May 13, 2025 Weekly Announcements post, Magic Online stated that Spellgrounds would now debut on May 27, 2025. The first event would be with the Modern format, as had originally been scheduled for that week. The status of the Legacy and Standard events which were meant to have preceded that one were not mentioned[3].

The following weekly announcement post, on May 20, supplied the June Spellgrounds schedule with Legacy to be held from June 2, 2025[4]. There were six new decks for that event.
