Devas is a village in Benalia, originally founded by refugees from Serra's Realm.
Description
Devas spreads along one of Benalia's rivers. Benalia favors white stone, and Devas has used it in abundance, polishing each wall until it shines like alabaster. Fluted columns rise to impressive heights to either side of the white oak gates, ending in platforms far above like those that might carry statues but instead carry angelic lookouts. Inside the gates, rising over the few finished clay-tiled roofs, are the walls of their cathedral fortress. Parade grounds are established just outside the gate, and fields of grain surround the village as far as the eye can see.[1]
History
The village of Devas was founded by refugees from Serra's Realm in 3655 AR, on the border between Clan Capashen lands and those of Clan Ortovi. This put them into direct relations with the nation of Benalia, founded only about 150 years earlier. Devas's defense was led by the almost-immortal Warden Lyanii, who had lived through the Collapse of Serra's Realm almost 300 years earlier and had ventured forth from Jamuraa where the refugees were brought after the collapse. With the aid of Urza, Lyanii and the Serrans were put in charge of training the Capashen scions in military matters, which strengthened the bond between the Serrans and Benalia at large, eventually leading the nation to dropping the ban on Serranism and eventually embracing it on a large scale.[1]
