Not to be confused with Captain (democratic format).

Captain is a casual, multiplayer, singleton format. The format's rules take a lot of inspiration from Commander, Oathbreaker, and Canadian Highlander. The goal for this format is to allow more archetypes to find success in high level gameplay. The archetypes that are trying to be supported by the new rules include: mill, burn, and aggro. While combo and ramp decks don't get any extra benefits from the new rules.

Players choose a legendary creature or a planeswalker as their Captain. The Captain follows rules identical to those for commanders governing starting the game, the {2} additional cost for each additional cast, and changing zones.

There is no mandatory color identity in Captain. You may run any card not on the banned list regardless of its color identity. This includes silver-bordered cards.

Decks must contain minimum 60 cards (including the Captain) and players start at 20 life.

The banned list is maintained by the format's creators.
