Beadle & Grimm's
Beadle & Grimm's is a gaming company that offers licensed expanded editions of Dungeons & Dragons modules, Magic: The Gathering sets and other games. They are known to create in-flavor maps, handouts, artifacts, bonus encounters, and other accessories.
History
Beadle & Grimm’s Pandemonium Warehouse was created by five founders (including actor Matthew Lillard of Scream and Scooby-Doo fame) as a mid-life crisis project expanding on their hobby of roleplaying games. It was named after two of their D&D characters and has now grown into an actual company.
Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty
After B&G had created several products for Dungeons and Dragons, they were invited to create something similar for the Magic set Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty.[1][2]
Their Kamigawa Silver Edition for $ 199.00 included a demon-themed Lightning Blue deck box, 100 Gold Dragon sleeves, a Kamigawa Art card folio, an art-inspired life counter, a LED playmat, a Kamigawa metal counter set, a demon mask necklace, an exclusive game log, a Kamigawa world map and an in-world Guide to Kamigawa.
The Kamigawa Platinum Edition for $ 449.00 additionally included an exclusive Neon Dynasty-themed backpack, a sword-adorned card vault, a kami-themed Neon Pink deck box, 100 Black Dragon sleeves, a Kamigawa wall art poster, 5 lithographic art prints and a sidekick plush.
These sets of merchandise notably didn't include Magic playing cards.
Here Be Dragons
The next collaboration was Secret Lair Drop Series: Here Be Dragons.[3] The set consists of seven foil dragon-themed cards. In addition, B&G created a special deck box, sleeves and a metal dragon-shaped life counter as part of the package.
Behold New Phyrexia
A product connected to Phyrexia: All Will Be One (Behold New Phyrexia) was released for sale on February 18, 2023, but not shipped out until the end of September 2023[4] It consists of:
- A Phyrexian-themed artifact / deck box designed to look like it originated right out of The Fair Basilica.
- Made of eerily alluring sinuous red growths covered by a porcelain-like exterior. Phyrexian phrases are carved into the sides, and the Phyrexian symbol adorns the top.
- Removable magnetic top with indentations for 2 sets of d10 life counters.
- Built to hold either a full Commander Deck or two Standard Decks, with an extra space to hold life counters, tokens, pencils, etc.
- In-world Phyrexian language translation journal.
- Read the journal of the Tolarian Academy researcher charged with translating “The Shard” obtained from Phyrexian sleeper agents on Dominaria. Use his notes to translate elements of this box, your Phyrexian language cards, and other instances of the language.
- Over 36 pages of in-world story and Phyrexian language details.
- Four matching alloy d10 life counters, using the Phyrexian symbol () for the “0”.
- 130 Elesh Norn-themed card sleeves.
- A Limited-print foil Phyrexian language Mental Misstep with art by Erica Yang.
- A total of 7,000 cards were printed.
- Card placed in both a clear plastic sleeve and a hard plastic display case for extra protection during shipping.
Wilds of Eldraine Token Set
In August 2023, a special Token Set in conjunction with Wilds of Eldraine was released.[5] This consisted of a tin box depicting Syr Ginger fighting multiple Food Horrors, a Syr Ginger metal life counter (1–40), six Sweettooth-themed dice (1 x d20, 2 x d10, 3 x d6), seven aluminum role token cards and seven metal gingerbread counters (5 x +1, 2 x +5).
The Case of the Three Blade Knife
On January 26, 2024, the murder mystery game The Case of the Three Blade Knife was released in conjunction with Murders at Karlov Manor. It used the augmented reality embedded in a Ravnican Agency of Magicological Investigations (RAMI) badge (3" x 3") to identify suspects and bring a killer to justice.[6]
Bloomburrow Token Set
Around August 2024, a special Token Set in conjunction with Bloomburrow will be released.[7] This consists of Bloomburrow metal life counter (1–40), six Bloomburrow-themed dice (1 x d20, 2 x d10, 3 x d6), seven aluminum token cards and five metal +1 counterss.
Controversy
The Behold New Phyrexia bundle resulted in several controversies for the company. The original shipping date of the product was June 2023 but due to logistic issues, it wasn't shipped to customers until September.[8][9] Consumers reported many quality control issues with the deck box, such as warped panels and deck slots that were too small to fit fully sleeved decks.[10][11] Additionally typos and errors were discovered in the translation guide.
