Magic: The Gathering Foundations, or Foundations, is a Magic set designed to provide a common base for new and experienced players. It is a Standard-legal set and will be released on November 15, 2024.[2][3][4]

Set details

Foundations is a new type of expansion set designed to carry through multiple Standard rotations. It contains mechanically unique card designs as well as "less-complex, clean and elegant" reprints, functioning similarly to an "evergreen Core set".[5] Unlike other Standard-legal sets, cards in Foundations will remain legal in Standard until 2029.[6] A big part is a curated play experience custom-built for newcomers, being the most robust "learn to play" product yet.[4] While the set also contains staple cards targeted at more advanced players, these can only be found in the booster packs.[5] In this way, the products are split for different target audiences.

The set is about 50% reprints, and 50% new cards which are designed to be similarly straight-forward.

Storyline

The set features characters and locations from many different planes, and in different points in time.

Marketing

Foundations is available in Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, a Beginner Box and a Starter Collection.[7][4][5]
