Magic: The Gathering Foundations, or Foundations, is a Magic set designed to provide a common base for new and experienced players. It is a Standard-legal set and will be released on November 15, 2024.[2][3][4]

Set details

Foundations is a new type of expansion set designed to carry through multiple Standard rotations. It contains mechanically unique card designs as well as "clean and elegant" reprints, functioning similarly to an "evergreen Core set".[5] Unlike other Standard-legal sets, cards in Foundations will remain legal in Standard until 2029.[6] A big part is a curated play experience custom-built for newcomers, being the most robust "learn to play" product yet.[4] While the set also contains staple cards targeted at more advanced players, these can only be found in the booster packs.[5] In this way, the products are split for different target audiences.

Storyline

The set features characters and locations from many different planes, and in different points in time.

Marketing

Foundations is available in Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, a Beginner Box and a Starter Collection.[7][4][5]
