Mix-and-Match cards
A loose array of cards, each with two keyword mechanics from previous sets which beneficially work together.
- Bogardan Lancer (Bloodthirst and Flanking, one making the own creature stronger and the other to make opposing creatures weaker)
- Cutthroat il-Dal (Hellbent and Shadow; allows controller to toggle evasion and blocking of Shadow creatures)
- Gathan Raiders (Hellbent and Morph - discard a card to reach hellbent)
- Gibbering Descent (Hellbent and Madness to play the card when discarding it to reach hellbent)
- Haze of Rage (Storm and Buyback to up the storm counter by replaying the card)
- Ichor Slick (Cycling and Madness to play the card while cycling)
- Kavu Primarch (Kicker and Convoke to pay the kicker cost)
- Knight of Sursi (Flying and flanking) [1]
- Marshaling Cry (Cycling and Flashback to play the card after having it cycled)
- Molten Disaster (Kicker and Split second when kicked)
- Mystic Speculation (Scry and Buyback to scry repeatedly)
- Ravaging Riftwurm (Kicker to add counters and vanishing)
- Spirit en-Dal (Shadow and Forecast to give shadow to other creatures without the "can't block" drawback)
- Sprout Swarm (Buyback and Convoke to pay the buyback cost with)
- Thornweald Archer (Deathtouch and Reach to hit flying creatures with deathtouch)
Futureshifted
The following cards are a list of futureshifted cards in the set, identifiable by their different, "futureshifted" card layout. They are notable for introducing new keywords, having unusual abilities or type combinations, and/or for previewing blocks that will be released.

Previewed storylines
- Ghostfire - Its flavor text mentions Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, who is later revealed to be one of the planeswalkers that imprisoned the Eldrazi on Zendikar, and the twin of Nicol Bolas. Few pieces of flavor text have inspired more future story.[11]

- Centaur Omenreader - Reduces creature spell costs, as long as it is tapped. It has the Snow type.
- Daybreak Coronet - Introduces lifelink, Enchant creature with another aura attached to it
- Dryad Arbor - Land creature.
- Emblem of the Warmind - An aura that affects all creatures you control.
- Henchfiend of Ukor - Return of the hybrid mana symbol, and the introduction of off-color echo costs.
- Imperiosaur - 'Muraganda' plane native, card dependent on basic lands.
- Imperial Mask - Enchantment that copies itself to each teammate you have. Especially suitable for multiplayer games.[12]
- Muraganda Petroglyphs - 'Muraganda' plane native, card that supports vanilla creatures.
- Nacatl War-Pride - Creature that replicates itself depending on how many defenders there are.
- Narcomoeba - Pseudo-madness ability that allows it to be put into play when sent from the library to the graveyard.
- Nix - A cheap but rather niche counterspell against spells that were played for no mana.
- Phosphorescent Feast - Card that gets more powerful when there are more green mana symbols in your hand's cards, an ability that became Eventide's chroma and Theros's devotion.
- Ramosian Revivalist - A Rebel puller that uses the graveyard instead of the library.
- Sarcomite Myr - An artifact that costs colored mana to play (see colored artifacts).
- Seht's Tiger - Flash creature that gives you protection from the color of your choice the turn it comes into play.
- Shapeshifter's Marrow - A more sedate card in the tradition of Yet Another Æther Vortex.
- Spellweaver Volute - Enchants an instant card in the graveyard.
- Spellwild Ouphe - A card that reduces the cost of spells that target it.
- Sporoloth Ancient - Creature that can only put spore counters on itself, but oddly gives a spore counter removing ability to every creature. (this ability does however costs 1 less spore counter to activate than other fungus abilities)
