Instant creatures are both instants and creatures and therefore the rules for both apply to them. It refers to the theoretical supertyping of instants, though as the supertyping is not implemented there are implications to being both a spell and a permanent type.

Instant creatures were first featured on two test cards in the Mystery Booster set: Lightning Colt and Visitor from Planet Q. They are not featured in the Comprehensive Rules.
