Utility taplands are taplands that provide a utility effect instead of the producing multiple colors.

Cycling lands

Main article: Cycling land

Taplands that have the cycling mechanic, thus they are utility lands.

Future Sight

This uncommon cycle of utility taplands from Future Sight features different keywords or ability words. Thematically, all are located in Dominaria:

Hideaway lands

This rare cycle of utility taplands from Lorwyn that features the hideaway mechanic.

Shadowmoor cycle

Shadowmoor introduced an uncommon cycle of utility taplands with basic land types. Each land has an activated ability with an activation cost of M, where M is the associated color.

Zendikar cycles

Zendikar added two cycles of utility taplands, named after locations on Zendikar.

Common cycle

Worldwake cycle

Shortly after, Worldwake added another common cycle of utility taplands, which continues the theme of Zendikar possessing a unique brand of mana.

Battle for Zendikar cycle

Later, Battle for Zendikar added another common cycle of utility taplands.

Memorials

In Dominaria a cycle with a common naming pattern was added each depicting characters from Dominaria's past.[1]

Eldraine

Throne of Eldraine introduced two cycle of five lands, one common and one rare.

The Wilds

The five common lands enter the battlefield tapped unless the player controls three or more lands of that basic land type. Each land depicts one location in the Wilds, has a basic land type and an enter the battlefield effect when it enters untapped.

Castles

The five rare lands enter the battlefield tapped unless the player controls a land of that basic land type. Each land depicts one of the five courts of the Realm and has an activated ability.

Kaldheim Realms

In Kaldheim a double cycle of ten uncommon lands which enter the battlefield tapped was printed to represent each of the realms. They tap for color M and have abilities that cost XMNN and sacrificing them, where M and N are the colors associated with that realm.

An eleventh utility tapland was printed at Rare with The World Tree.

Strixhaven Campuses

In Strixhaven: School of Mages, a cycle of lands to represent each of the college campuses was printed. They tap for M and N, which are the colors associated with that college and have the common ability {4},{T}: Scry 1.

New Capenna Locales

In Streets of New Capenna, a cycle of lands that tap for M and N, which are the allied colors in each of the families. They have the common ability 2MN, {T}: Sacrifice CARDNAME: Draw a card.

New Phyrexia Spheres

In Phyrexia: All Will Be One, five common Taplands were printed with an activated ability of {1}{M}, {T} and sacrifice to draw a card. Each of these five represents the realms of each praetor. Together with the The Monumental Facade, Mirrex, The Mycosynth Gardens and The Seedcore lands, they represent the nine Spheres of New Phyrexia.

Ixalan Hidden Caves

In The Lost Caverns of Ixalan, five common Taplands with the subtype Cave and an activated ability of {4}{M}, {T} and sacrifice to Discover 4. Each of these five represents subterranean versions of basic land types, as some of the geography would not makes sense underground.
