(Limited Edition) Alpha is the first printing of the first Magic: The Gathering set. Released on August 5, 1993, the set is the first of all editions and sets of cards, and established Magic and various of its mechanics, including banding, defender, fear, first strike, flying, haste, landhome, landwalk, protection, regeneration, trample, and vigilance.

Alpha did not feature a storyline per se, but there was flavor text to supplement the flavor of the cards and the game was built on the premise that players, as planeswalkers, could cast spells and summon creatures.
