Magic: the Gathering is a video game for the Dreamcast. It was released exclusively in Japan on June 28, 2001.

Description

The game takes place on the plane of Celesta in the town of Magic Heart, and its surrounding areas of Murg, Camat Island, Lydar Forest, Yeluk, Tornell, and The Balance Tower, each representing a basic land that the opponent's decks will be based around. It includes cards from Sixth Edition, Alliances and Tempest.[1][2][3]

Tyler Bielman was the Creative Designer for the worldbuilding and Scott McGough was also involved. Rk post, Brom and Mark Tedin did at least some of the concept art for Celesta. Graphically, the game prefigures Magic Duels. The interface uses a mix of Japanese and English text, and some gameplay events prompt English voiceovers.[4]

Exclusive cards

The game included ten cards that did not appear in other digital products or on paper until Arden Angel was reprinted over 20 years later.[5] Many of them use random effects that would be difficult to implement on printed cards. The cards have a unique set symbol () exclusive to the Dreamcast game.

Murgish Cemetery {4}{B}{B} Enchantment {3}{B}, Discard a card: Put an X/X black Zombie creature token into play, where X is a random number from 2 to 6.
Ashuza's Breath {1}{R} Sorcery For each creature, randomly choose a number from 0 to 2. Breath of Ashuza deals that amount of damage to that creature.
Velican Dragon {5}{R}{R} Creature - Dragon Flying. When Velican Dragon attacks or blocks, it gets +X/+0 until the end of turn, where X is a random number from 0 to 5. 5/5
Lydari Druid {2}{G} Creature - Druid When Lydari Druid comes into play, randomly choose a basic land type for each land in play. Those lands become the type chosen this way.
(This effect doesn't end at end of turn.)
