The Heart of Yavimaya was the central magnigoth tree of the Yavimaya Forest on Dominaria.

Description

The Heart of Yavimaya, as the eldest and largest magnigoth in the forest, is a five-thousand-foot-tall tree. Its root bulb bulges above the nearby canopy. Foliage spreads in four vast rafts up its manifold trunk. The tree's crown is a huge, lofty forest in its own right. This is a place of eternal and holy light. It is a sacred site, as large as a great city. No thinking creature dared live on the Heart of Yavimaya — not elf nor sprite nor druid.[1]

History

The Heart of Yavimaya grew near the pre-existing Yavimaya River in the wake of the Sylex Blast, slowly forming the Yavimaya forest around it during the Dark Age, and spreading to cover a large area of land during the Ice Age.

After Freyalise’s World Spell to end the Ice Age in 2934 AR, Multani, the spirit of Yavimaya, awoke in darkness and used the Heart's vines to kill sentient life: gorillas, elves, and humans were chased off or exterimnated. It was able to reanimate a dead elf through the use of its vines and green mana. To ensure the safety of their peoples, Kaysa, Laina, Jaeuhl Carthalion, Jaya Ballard, Fyndhorn elves, and gorilla shamans cleansed the Heart of Yavimaya of its darkness.[2]

In 3357 AR, Multani excised a piece of the tree's core, called the Weatherseed, gifting it to Urza Planeswalker. From that wedge of wood grew the hull of Urza's great Skyship Weatherlight.[1]

During the Phyrexian Invasion of Dominaria in 4205 AR, the Heart of Yavimaya became a scene of battle between the defenders of the forest led by Multani and the invading Phyrexians. Though the Heart defended itself, it was badly wounded and almost killed in the fight, but Multani saved it, turning the dead Phyrexians into wood elementals and converting them to the defenders' side.[1]
