The Erg Desert covers western Almaaz, part of the Terisian Isles on Dominaria.[1]
Description
After the Flooding of Terisiare and the creation of the Sea of Almaaz, the Erg Desert came to cover almost the entire western half of the island of Almaaz. An erg is a broad, flat area of desert covered with wind-swept sand with little or no vegetative cover, and the erg of Almaaz is a very hostile place, battered by the harsh sun and offering few safe havens and oases.
The Erg Desert is home to roving bandits, stinging scorpions, outcast orcs from Wyrvil, fickle djinni, and hungry scavengers. The relentless sun during the day encourages travel during the dark hours, but the danger of a scouring sandstorm is always present. The modern-day Fallaji ride kavu into the Erg Desert.[2][3]
The fractious orc kingdom of Wyrvil occupies the western half of the erg, while the city of Sumifa shelters in a river valley near the coast. East of the erg lies Fallajia, offering a less harsh climate. A few days' travel from Sumifa lies Neffia, a cave system connected to a life-saving oasis, which sheltered the Neffian people for many years. To the southwest, across one of the Lat-Nam Straits on a smaller island, lie the Borderlands.[1]
