The Battle of Megheddon Defile was an event on Dominaria that happened c. -5000 AR, as part of the Thran-Phyrexian War.
History
The armies of the Thran Alliance traveled through the mountain pass named the Megheddon Defile, coming to the desert plain across from Halcyon. Yawgmoth had his forces lying in wait, either hidden behind sand-colored canopies or hovering in the air next to the sun. The Alliance's army included humans, dwarves, elves, viashino and minotaurs, while Yawgmoth had his Halcyte Guard and his first Phyrexians, people mutated in Phyrexia. He also had two artifact behemoths.[1]
The battle started as an ambush, and Yawgmoth's ranks tore into the Thran Alliance's army at the foot of the defile. The Alliance then responded by sending their artifact creatures, mantis soldiers, against Yawgmoth's behemoths. Yawgmoth realized the battle would last longer than he had hoped, but he had a backup plan to seize control of the artifact monitoring, communication, and control device called the Null Sphere. In the Battle of the Null Sphere, he installed himself as master of the Sphere.
When the third day of battle dawned, the Thran and their barbarian allies were entrenched behind walls of bodies. They could not retreat into the defile. Halcyte airships commanded the skies over it. Neither could they break through. Halcyte monsters and machines commanded the desert. The Thran allies could only hunker down in the middle ground and fire what missiles remained to them. Now in possession of the Null Sphere, Yawgmoth seized control of the Thran Alliances' artifacts, causing them to turn on their makers. As he lay dying, Dwarven Commander Curtisworthy resisted to the last. His last sight was the Null Sphere dropping a stonecharger that completely obliterated the Defile itself, leaving it a blasted waste.[1]
