60 basic lands (exactly) Momir Vig, Simic Visionary (Vanguard) |
- This page is about the format. For the character, see Momir Vig.
Momir is a sanctioned casual Magic Online and Magic Arena format that is based on the "Momir Vig" Vanguard avatar.
Magic Online
Momir Basic
Momir Basic decks consist of the following:
- exactly 60 basic lands.
- exactly 1 Momir Vig, Simic Visionary Avatar.[1]
The Momir Vig Avatar allows you to start with 24 life, and grants the following ability:
Momir Vig
, Discard a card: Create a token that's a copy of a creature card with converted mana cost X chosen at random. Activate this ability only any time you could cast a sorcery and only once each turn.
While the format may seem trivial or impractically random, there is a surprising depth to the strategy involved.[2] The goal is to find the most interactive creatures, that will help swing the tide in your favor.
The avatar was made available through the Momir Basic Event Deck.
Magic Arena
Momir's Madness
On Magic Arena, a variant of Momir Basic called Momir's Madness is occasionally playable as a special event. While similar to MTGO's Momir Basic in concept, there are some notable differences:
- Instead of the Momir Vig avatar, each player starts with an emblem called Factory of Momir Vig. It has the same activated ability but no life modifier, so players start at 20 life, not 24.
- The emblem only produces tokens of cards available on Magic Arena, which currently includes the Historic format as well as a few Momir-exclusive cards.
- The deck has 12 copies of each basic land in it. Players cannot adjust this ratio.
Momir Planeswalker
In May 2019, Magic Arena introduced the Momir Planeswalker variant, as part of the War of the Spark promotion.[3]
The Momir Planeswalker format takes Momir's Madness and adds one copy of each of the 36 planeswalkers from War of the Spark in addition to the 60 basic lands. That means, in addition to the normal Momir discard-a-card-for-a-creature-token gameplay, you’ll also be able to play your planeswalkers as normal.
