Magic: The Gathering 2013 Core Set (Magic 2013) is an upcoming advanced level core set being released July 13, 2012. Prerelease Events will take place July 7-8, 2012 and Launch Parties will take place July 13-15, 2012 (conflicing with report of "no more Launch Parties"[1]). Game Day will be on August 4-5, 2012.
Set Details
Magic 2013 is the first Core Set to have a multicolored card, i.e. Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker. It thus follows the tradition of recent Core Sets giving a taste and support to the themes of the Expansion following it, namely multicolored cards in Return to Ravnica. It also reintroduces Legendary Creatures last seen in Tenth Edition, though in this case the legendary creatures are original.

Cycles
Magic 2013 has at least five cycles:
- Planeswalkers: There are six mythic rare Planeswalker cards in the set — Ajani, Caller of the Pride; Jace, Memory Adept; Liliana of the Dark Realms; Chandra, the Firebrand; Garruk, Primal Hunter and Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker.
- Cards related to the Planeswalkers: Ajani's Sunstriker; Jace's Phantasm; Liliana's Shade; Chandra's Fury, Garruk's Packleader, Disciple of Bolas and Augur of Bolas.
- Legendary creatures: Odric, Master Tactician; Talrand, Sky Summoner; Nefarox, Overlord of Grixis; Krenko, Mob Boss and Yeva, Nature's Herald.
- Cards related to the legendary creatures: Crusader of Odric; Talrand's Invocation; Servant of Nefarox; Krenko's Command and Yeva's Forcemage.
- Tap lands: Each of these rare dual lands comes into play tapped unless you control a land of one of the appropriate types — Glacial Fortress, Drowned Catacomb, Dragonskull Summit, Rootbound Crag and Sunpetal Grove. (Reprinted from Magic 2011.)
Mirrored pairs
Magic 2013 has at least one mirrored pair.
- The white Knight of Glory and the black Knight of Infamy are both uncommon Human Knights with with a mana cost of
C, power/toughness of 2/1, exalted and protection from the opposite color.
Functional reprints
- Flames of the Firebrand is a functional reprint of Arc Lightning from Urza's Saga.
- Krenko's Command is a functional reprint of Dragon Fodder from Shards of Alara.
- Warclamp Mastiff is a functional reprint of Tundra Wolves from Legends, save for creature type.
