Not a keyword action?

Similar to my caution on Talk:Defeat, I would be careful about assuming keywords before CR updates come out. It really seems like "protect" just means "has been named protector" and "declare blockers for a certain type of attack". It certainly doesn't seem to be a keyword action because it's an ongoing state, and that state is just part of the overall ruleset for Battles. There didn't need to be a page to describe how blocks work when attacking Planeswalkers, since other combat pages and the Planeswalker page itself can describe it just fine; I doubt there will be a need for this page since the attacking/blocking pages and the Battle page itself will describe it just fine.

"Protector" might be an alternative page name, since it seems to be a named status a player can have. But even then, it isn't a term that exists independently from the Battle mechanics, and it really just means "the chosen player". And "chosen player" doesn't have a page because it doesn't need one.

Obviously we can wait and see what the CR updates actually say. - jerodast (talk) 10:45, 3 April 2023 (UTC)

My mistake, re-reading the page it just says keyword, not action. In any case, I still don't think this is an actual keyword, just like "block" or "dies" isn't a keyword - they're just things that happen as part of the mechanics of the game. In this case, part of the mechanics of battles.- jerodast (talk) 10:49, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
