Not a keyword action?

It doesn't seem like "defeat" is a keyword action. It seems like it's a term that implies the circumstances of a battle having its last defense counter removed from it and triggering a resulting action based on the subtype e.g. Siege, but is really just part of a larger process. Much like the word "dies", which is not a keyword but rather a shortcut for the phrase "permanent goes from the battlefield to the graveyard", things might trigger off of a defeat, but not an action in itself.

If that's true, I suspect this page doesn't need to exist - all the behavior of battles being defeated would already be well-described by pages Siege, defense counter, transform, and Battle itself. The one possibility is if "defeat" is the equivalent of "destroy" for battles, e.g. a sorcery says "defeat target battle." I suspect they would just say "destroy" instead, but we'll see.

Obviously we can wait for what the final Comprehensive Rules reveal.- jerodast (talk) 10:22, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
