Wiki pages are not owned by individual editors
Anonymous page creator, I've cleaned up the article somewhat, particularly by adding a citation. I wish I had a better citation, but I doubt there's much outside of forum discussion at the moment. I also removed your note about not editing the page name, for two reasons:
- Page names are unalterable, the most anyone could do is delete this page and copy its content to another page
- Neither you nor any other editor owns this or any other page
You are welcome to edit any page to improve it, and revert edits you feel harm the page, so long as you do not engage in edit wars. If you feel strongly about the accuracy of a particular page, please feel free to watch and/or patrol it. You have no authority to forbid other editors from freely editing, outside of your own user pages, though you may suggest guidelines outside of the primary article namespace (via talk pages, or in non-included sections of template pages). Finally, it's worth noting that, as this page is about a very new piece of Magic slang, its accuracy may change over time. At the moment, I would suggest we create redirects to this page from the pages for other proposed names, and be ready to shift this content to any of them should that name being more prevalent. --Corveroth (talk) 02:11, 15 September 2015 (UTC)
Explanation of the name
I get that Battle lands is the term used by WotC. Most of the fan names I could understand, but this was one not. What would be the explanation? --Hunter (talk) 06:50, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
- I've been reverting most of the naming changes on this article ever since it was created as Tango land, since they were all performed without further citations that would indicate a need to change the page (and none went so far as moving the page, either). Since this edit at least justified it on the grounds of standardizing to WotC's nomeclature, I've left it alone to see what the community reaction would be. - I'm striking it immediately. No citation, and the base word is both sexual and far from neutral. This one needs strong evidence if it's going to exist. - I think we agree, than. Two archived *chan threads, one post from a deleted reddit account with no notable replies, and I'm not familiar with Veeky. I don't think that matches your initial description of it as "one of the most prolific names". =)
- Honestly, even "tango" there needs a decent citation. Usage in a CFB/Goldfish article, a high-traffic Reddit thread or two, something like that. - It's hard to source besides anecdotally every card shop I went to still uses the term Cuckland. I just did a google search and pulled most of the results, Battle lands weren't that popular in general so it's hard to find conversation about them, in fact, the most notable thing about them is the fact that people argued over the nickname. Most articles about it I've looked at have been editted to use the term Battle Land instead of a nickname. Heykidsdoyoulikememes (talk) 16:16, 13 September 2017 (UTC)
- When Wizards announced them as "battle lands", I think that ended the debate over what they "should" be called. I have to say that, until you edited it in, I had never heard the term "cuckland", which makes me wonder if there's some underlying demographic split there. Either way, this is why wikis have to rely on citations to sort it out. That section of the article could try going into further detail on the "debate", such as it still exists. The citations available should provide the necessary evidence for editors to apportion fair levels of focus to each of the suggested names, and whether each is currently in a significant degree of circulation (e.g. only one of the four "cuckland" links comes from the last year, and only a single person in each discussion is using it, so based on the evidence, it appears that it's rarely used at present). I'll leave it up to you or another editor to determine whether that kind of discussion would improve the article. I'm not wholly opposed to seeing the term here, so long as its presence is proportional to its relevance (I don't think we need a redirect from Cuckland=>Battle land, for example). --Corveroth (talk) 18:00, 13 September 2017 (UTC)
