Mark Chalice is an American former professional Magic player.
History
Leading up to the US Nationals in 1996 he was the highest ranked player in the world by the DCI.[1] Chalice qualified for the 1996 World Championships based on his ranking, where he went undefeated in the first day booster draft.[2]
“ | America's Mark Chalice came out on top with a perfect 6-0 match record. Drafting a Disintegrate as his first pick in the first pack and having two more passed to him in the second pack didn't hurt.[2] | ” |
He finished the event in 11th place[3], his 26 match points equal to that of quarter-finalist Tommi Hovi but lower on breakers. This situation was not uncommon for Chalice, who had a reputation of doing well at Pro Tour events but always just finishing outside of the Top 8.[4]
“ | Mark Chalice is probably not that well known historically. He only had one Top 8 finish, although he achieved many Top 16 finishes. Chalice was well known for tearing up the Swiss rounds only to lose right before he made Top 8.[4] | ” |
His only final day performance was at Pro Tour New York in 1997, where he finished fifth. The format played was Fifth Edition and Visions booster draft.
