There are five matches in which the player represents Kytheon against a series of computer-controlled opponents. Decks start at 40 cards, with 5 added each match for a total of 60 for the final match. Gideon's campaign acts as a tutorial, having simple decks with predetermined card order.
In the first match, Kytheon faces some Akroan Guards with a monowhite deck.

You lead a small group of street toughs known as Kytheon's Irregulars. Together, you act as a force for justice and charity in the slums. While raiding an Akroan estate for food, you draw the attention of the city guards.[4]
You fight your way out of your hideout. But you realize continued resistance will put your friends at risk. You lay down your weapons, and the guards haul you off to the dungeons. You are sentenced to ten years for thievery.[4]

Gideon's second mission
In the second match, Kytheon faces Warden Hixus with a deck.

Still standing for justice even while incarcerated, you fight against the bullying and corruption around you. Hixus, the prison's warden, begins to admire your commitment to your convictions. He starts your training in hieromancy, magic based on order and justice.[4]

Gideon's third mission
In the third match, Kytheon faces a deck.

Akros has fallen under attack as harpies mercilessly swarm the city's walls. Every able-bodied person is needed. You and the other prisoners are released, the city's last hope to beat back the monsters.[4]
With your martial talents and magical skills, you manage to fend off the onslaught of voracious harpies. However, you hear calls for help from the main gate. Before the harpies can regroup, you make your way along the walls toward the cries.[4]

Gideon's fourth mission
In the fourth match, Kytheon needs to defend the city of Akros against a Cyclops attack. The Cyclops deck is .

A terrifying cyclops approaches the main gate, and he's not alone. You and your Irregulars are the only ones who can stop the monsters from storming the city. Fail to defeat them, and Akros will fall. Succeed, and you'll become a hero worthy of the gods.[4]
Your heroism at the gates of Akros did not go unnoticed. Heliod, god of the sun, seeks a champion to face an even greater foe. He offers you a sun-blessed spear and instructs you to destroy a mighty titan who serves Erebos, god of the dead.[4]

Gideon's fifth mission
In the final match of the campaign, Kytheon faces a Titan sent by the GodErebos. The Titan's deck is monoblack.
