MTG Wiki:WikiProject Rulings cleanup

This project exists to track progress on applying Template:Rulings to mechanics articles.

Historically, MTG Wiki has copy-pasted rulings (informal rules clarifications published by Wizards of the Coast) without proper attribution (example). Even when a source was provided, nothing visually indicated a direct word-for-word quotation. Template:Rulings was created to address this problem. It formats rulings so as to clearly mark them as a direct quote.

The pages needing edits are listed on the talk page. To contribute to the project, choose an article from the list and do the following:

  1. Find out where the rulings came from. Often they're be from Release Notes, FAQs, or Rules Primers.
  2. Edit the Rulings section of the article so that it uses {{rulings}}. 99% of the time, you'll use a bulleted list, not a description list. (For an example of a description list, see Combine.) If the rulings are spread over multiple documents, then use a different template instance for each document (e.g., Ninjutsu). Finally, make sure that the wording of each ruling matches the source document(s) exactly.
  3. If the article also has a Rules section, make Rulings a third-level heading (===Rulings===) under Rules, rather than a second-level heading on its own (==Rulings==).
  4. After you publish your changes, edit the project talk page to remove that article from the list.

For more information on using {{rulings}}, see the template documentation.
