The End of Diraden's Eternal Night was an event that returned Diraden's non-black mana after untold decades without them.[1]

Description

After an untold number of decades trapped in eternal night, the end of Velrav's plane-spanning curse was heralded by the arrival of the two planeswalkers Chandra Nalaar and Gideon Jura on the plane. Although Chandra and Gideon had until then been enemies, they decided to band together to end the curse so they could escape the plane. Since neither of them had access to their magic, they had to approach the situation using only their brains and brawn.

Using the goblin Jurl to lead them to the village of the wise woman Falia, Gideon and Chandra grew closer to each other. Although Falia schemed to have Chandra imprisoned by Velrav while she took Gideon to mate, her plans were foiled when Gideon intervened in Chandra's capture, killing one of Velrav's Fog Riders before he too was taken captive.

While Chandra was treated for her wounds in Velrav's bedchambers, Gideon was handled with more ostentation for his part in the death of the Fog Rider. The hieromancer was tied to stakes in the courtyard with the understanding that any of Velrav's blooddrinkers who wished it were encouraged to bleed Gideon with daggers and feed on his blood. When Chandra awoke, she parleyed with Velrav to treat Gideon with more mercy in return for sharing the truth of planeswalkers with the Prince. This resulted in Gideon being moved into the dungeons below, where he was spared further bloodletting, although he kept being roughed up by the jailors.

Knowing the truth of planeswalkers, Velrav started to believe he could harness Gideon's essence to become a planeswalker himself through a blood-drinking ritual. To attempt to prevent this, Chandra and Gideon struck a deal with King Gelidor, Velrav's imprisoned and withered father, whose blood enabled Velrav to continue the plane's eternal night. Chandra and Gideon planned to have Gideon and the king switch bodies to fool Velrav into killing his father, thereby breaking his curse. They were found out, however, and their plan was foiled. Gideon and the king were brought to Chandra to complete Velrav's ritual, but the king's previous blood donation to Chandra allowed her to interfere in Velrav's ritual and unlock her access to red mana. Finally able to channel again, Chandra created a sword of fire and beheaded the prince before he could kill Gideon. King Gelidor then willfully impaled himself on the sword as well, and with his death, the spell preventing Chandra and Gideon from planeswalking was lifted. Diraden's eternal night faded, and the plane was once more suffused with mana of all colors. Chandra and Gideon left the plane shortly afterwards, heading for Regatha.
