The Chimes was a magical valley behind mount Sarraza. It was located in the Borderlands southwest of Almaaz, part of the Terisian Isles on Dominaria.
History
Inhabited by elves, the valley of the Chimes contained a magical set of gigantic standing chimes, spread across the valley and providing the elves with magic that enabled them to form a glowing barrier keeping intruders out of the valley.[1]
In 35 AR, after binding the Beast of the Hours beneath mount Sarraza, the songmage Samor the Collector stumbled upon the Chimes and discovered that the frequency of their humming could be used as part of song-magic. He created a song spell that would banish the bound beast should it ever be released, though at the cost of the integrity of the chimes.[1]
More than 3000 years later, the songmage Ogwater Rifkin used this song spell to release and banish the great cockatrice. In the process, the chimes vibrated so intensely that they broke, crumbling to the ground in pieces. Ogwater succeeded in his attempt, and the Beast of the Hours was no more. [1]
What happened to the valley afterward is unknown, but the elves had survived the battle and likely remained in their realm, although it was now no longer protected by its magical barrier.
