Challenger
Challengers are players who are dedicated to competing at the highest levels of Magic: The Gathering, but who are not in the Magic Pro League or the Rivals League.
The term was first coined in 2019 for players that could qualify for Mythic Championships through Mythic Championship Qualifier tournaments run by local WPN member stores, by a tournament organizer, at a MagicFest, on Magic Online, or on MTG Arena.<[1]
As of 2020, the Challengers were to be replaced by Rivals. However, the term was quickly reinstated to denote non-league players rising through the pathways of Magic Esports. Challengers earn qualification to rising levels of competition, beginning with Ranked Seasons on MTG Arena and leading all the way to invitation the MPL or Rivals League.[2]
