Retro-Modern Magic ("Retro Magic") is a nostalgic casual, constructed Magic: The Gathering format which allows only Modern legal cards that also have been printed on the original, classic style card frame. Any printing of a legal card is allowed, but playing with the classic frames is encouraged. All Modern rules and errata apply.[1]

Retro Magic is a little different than other nostalgic casual, constructed formats (Old School, QL Magic, etc.) in that the card pool and meta continue to expand and shift with each expansions. Cards become legal in one of two ways:

  1. A card originally printed prior to Eighth Edition is reprinted in a Modern legal set.
  2. A Modern legal card is printed in one of the original, classic card frames; generally some sort of promo card.

A complete list of Retro-Modern legal cards is available at Scryfall by searching "is:old f:modern" or by clicking here.
