Theme decks

Urza's Destiny has four theme decks. One is monocolored, and three are bicolored.

Included with each deck was a booklet with deck lists and strategy guides for all four decks. An enhanced version of each deck was also suggested to upgrade it for a competitive Standard environment. (The cards for the enhanced deck lists were not supplied)

Assassin

Assassin is a black theme deck with a creature destruction theme.

“  Send in a swarm of small, black creatures backed up with creature destruction and discard effects to put a hit on the opposition and keep them on the run.[1]  ”

The rares in this deck are Attrition and Body Snatcher.

“  The enhanced version of “Assassin” works much like the basic deck, disrupting your opponent with discard effects and fast creatures. This version, powered by four Dark Rituals and loaded with weenies, should bring even swifter ruin. As before, concentrate on forcing discards right off the bat. Duress – Ravenous Rats – Stupor is a 1-2-3 punch that will leave your opponent down four cards and on the ropes. [2]  ”

Battle Surge

Battle Surge is a blue/red theme deck with a haste theme.

“  Uses blue stalling tactics to hold off opponents while a host of red creatures without summoning sickness mount a decisive attack.[3]  ”
Battle Surge

The rares in this deck are Goblin Marshal and Urza's Incubator.

“  The enhanced version of “Battle Surge” is similar to the basic deck, but with some key improvements. The greatest change is to the mana curve; the average cost of creatures is far lower. Many of the basic deck’s expensive creatures have been replaced with effective weenies like Raging Goblin and Mogg Fanatic. This lets you to play creatures earlier and get in faster damage, giving your opponent even less time to react. And because you’re playing more creatures, you might simply overwhelm whatever your opponent puts in your way. [4]  ”

Enchanter

Enchanter is a white/blue theme deck with an enchantment theme.

“  Employs a variety of blue creatures who get even more powerful when enchantments are played, making the most of every spell.[5]  ”

The rares in this deck are Rayne, Academy Chancellor and Thran Golem.

“  The enhanced version of “Enchanter ” gains extra counterspells to deal with the variety of Combination decks in today’s constructed environment. The deck’s creatures are also a lot more defensive – particularly Tradewind Rider with its high toughness, so important to midgame control and defence.[6]  ”
Enchanter - Enhanced Deck

Fiendish Nature

Fiendish Nature is a black/green aggro theme deck with an "When this is put into a graveyard from play" or "When this dies" theme.

“  Uses fast mana sources to power a horde of green uglies with attitude, while a touch of black regrowth keeps the hits coming.[7]  ”

The rares in this deck are Ancient Silverback and Pattern of Rebirth.

“  The enhanced version of “Fiendish Nature” takes advantage of a few Rath Cycle and Classic cards that make this deck even better. Verdant Force plus Recurring Nightmare is a simple recipe for something your opponent hates to see over and over and over. Walls of Blossoms stop the weenie hordes and give you creatures to sacrifice later to Recurring Nightmare. Add in even more fast mana and you have a deck that never relents. [8]  ”
