Ideally the whole thing looks kind of like this in the end:

Usurped links

I hacked on support for marking links where the original domain has been taken over by an unrelated party (sometimes maliciously, following a domain expiration). I followed the WP standard of adding url-status=usurped into the citation. With that parameter added, this template should avoid linking to the now-bad domain, but it will still link to any provided archive link. If there is no archive, and no expectation that the source will be restored, the ref should be deleted, because it is no longer verifiable. Corveroth (talk) 03:44, 31 October 2025 (UTC)
