 Template Documentation[view | edit | history | purge]

Explanatory footnote template, used for footnotes that aren't just direct references. They typically appear using letters in contrast to regular citations which are numbered;[a] the lettering is automatic just like with regular footnotes.[b]

Typically only one parameter: The footnote content, like {{efn|A special footnote}} produces the footnote linked at the end of this sentence.[c]

Normally does not need a parameter label, but can use reference or note or text if there would be an error, usually due to an = in the actual footnote text (like in a URL). For example {{efn|reference=1+1=2.}} makes the note at the end of this sentence.[d]

See Wikipedia:Template:Efn for more info/examples, although this template may not include all variants/parameters described there.

Notes

Use {{Notelist}} at the bottom/in a References section or there will be a citation error:

  1. Example one of two
  2. Example two of two
  3. A special footnote
  4. 1+1=2.
