Template:Ambiguous
This template should be used to mark atypical Magic lore and its sources, where two things are true:
- The lore in question is substantially at odds with the established canon.
- Official statements either do not exist or contradict each other.
Most lore sources do not meet these standards, even if some details from those sources are contradictory. Inconsistent dates or outlier descriptions of an otherwise established detail (the color of an item, the names of the persons in attendance of an event, the circumstances under which a planeswalker sparked, etc.) might be a consequence of an unreliable narrator, or simple authorial error. This template exists to mark sources that diverge so significantly that no plausible speculation suffices to explain the difference, and for which no official sources have settled the matter.
For example, as of March 2025, no statement exists to explain conflicts between Magic: Legends and the rest of the lore. Also, statements regarding the canonicity of Portal Three Kingdoms conflict with one another.
