Templates in table

I'm sure it's possible to have this list work with templates, so specific parts can be called in at Elemental#Elemental tokens or Insect#Insect tokens for instance. But I guess it's a bit tricky since the templates would go inside a table. Any ideas or suggestions? AlmaV (talk) 12:35, 30 August 2014 (UTC)

Token cards

I think there should be an additional column about whether a token card has been printed for that token.

Agreed. It should also list all editions in which the token was printed, perhaps with a link to magiccards.info. —Fenhl 13:22, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
Ideally, we would solve this on our own site. I will ask if we can update the database to include token cards. - Yandere Sliver 18:07, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
Why do that when we already link to magiccards.info for cards? —Fenhl 19:06, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
Because mtgs has its own card database. Ideally the c-tags will link to the mtgs database in the future. - Yandere Sliver 19:17, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
Can we start adding the cards anyway? We could link to magiccards.info directly for now, and change the links when the database is updated. —Fenhl 20:51, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
I think ideally we use something like this: Template:Scryfall search. This why we always now where we used card links. When we switch databases we don't hunt down the whole wiki to switch then out. - Yandere Sliver 20:56, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
That doesn't seem to work. We could change the token templates to use a template so we'd only have to update it in one place. I'll write one at User:Fenhl/Sandbox/Token list. —Fenhl 21:07, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
I've put the template on {{Demon tokens}} and {{Spirit tokens}}. It seems to work as intended. The “printed in” column is empty for now, so we can easily change that once we figure out how we want to present that info. If no one objects, I'll move the template into the template namespace and start updating all the templates. —Fenhl 12:14, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
Just commented on your talk page, but it is probably better to have the discussion here. I like it and I just realized that you did enough if clause testing. My only question would be that after the color, you have one parameter as far as I understand it it replaces the type of the token right? - Yandere Sliver 12:48, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
Yes, it defines supertypes and types, but not the subtypes, and defaults to creature. —Fenhl 13:42, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

Column break

Could someone please add this to the wiki CSS? It will remove the bullet points in front of the leftmost column, and fix the card names being split into multiple columns.

.ul-column-count-3 > ul {
    list-style: inside none;
}

.ul-column-count-3 > ul > li {
    column-break-inside: avoid;
    -webkit-column-break-inside: avoid;
}

Thanks. —Fenhl 13:46, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

Supplemental tokens

This list is missing tokens created by nonstandard cards, like the 7/7 Eldrazi from Hedron Fields of Agadeem. —Fenhl 01:33, 28 June 2016 (UTC)

Interesting... They should be added of course. - Yandere Sliver 10:04, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
Should be complete now. I went through all planes, schemes, and vanguards. —Fenhl 20:42, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
\o/ Many thanks on this. - Yandere Sliver 20:47, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
For the vanguards, since there doesn't seem to be any way to query for them by name, I used direct links to their pages on magiccards.info. —Fenhl 20:49, 28 June 2016 (UTC)

Embalm

We have a section for embalm tokens now, despite the intro saying that copy tokens aren't listed. Reasoning by User:Yanderesliver being that these tokens are not exact copies of the cards. By that logic, we should also list the copy token created by Soul Separator, for example. But in my opinion, the “not exact copies” thing is a bit arbitrary and it would make more sense to list all copy tokens in their own section. (Embalm could be a subsection of that.) —Fenhl 15:11, 15 April 2017 (UTC)

It is a bit arbitrary I give you that. Wizards put the Embalm tokens on the map due to the fact that you can actually get them from booster packs. This makes them distinct from other copy tokens. It is the first time they are doing something like that, so it is a new situation. The problem with copy tokens is that the have the name of the card which is copied, which makes an incredibly high number of different tokens created by one card. Basically one for every creature card and a few more.
We can think about how to handle copy cards, especially with things like soul separator. - Yandere Sliver 15:54, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
We could describe copy tokens by which characteristics are modified, and how. For example, the tokens created by Chronozoa and Cackling Counterpart would be considered the same, since no characteristics are modified (they are exact copies), but those created by Faerie Artisans would be listed separately, since the card type “artifact” is added. Saheeli's Artistry would be listed as a source of both of these tokens. —Fenhl 17:03, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
Here a quick test run: User:Yanderesliver/sandbox2. Interestingly enough Chronozoa can be specified exactly (like Embalm), which makes it quite easy to press into our display scheme and I would definitely opt to do so. In fact these kind of cards could be added to our named tokens list. They fit the currently logic, except for the fact that they are exact copies... Or to put it in another way. Cards which copy themselves are quite easy to handle.
The others are obviously more complicated. Colorless is currently from the parse color template that would be "as the copied whatever". We could also include a logic to suppress the red links. Or we do the complete free copy cards in another format. - Yandere Sliver 18:32, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
I'll see what I can do to make these a bit more readable. —Fenhl 23:45, 15 April 2017 (UTC)

(reset indent) I was looking through the database and these were all the self-copy cards I found, which can be handled like Chronozoa in the sandbox.

I put together {{Selfcopy tokens}} - Yandere Sliver 05:07, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
Added the cards which create copy tokens from other things then themselves... I hope I got them all. - Yandere Sliver 00:06, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

Phyrexian Golem category includes Precursor Golem

Precursor Golem doesn't produce Phyrexian Golem tokens, just regular Golem tokens. It should be included with Cavalier of Dawn, Golem Foundry and Masterful Replication in the 3/3 colorless Artifact Creature — Golem token section.

Both Gatherer and Scryfall show Precursor Golem's oracle text as being "3/3 colorless Golem artifact creature tokens" while Blade Splicer has been updated to Phyrexian Golem as of Jumpstart: New Horizons.

I can't seem to edit the tables to correct this though.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by SimianIX (talkcontribs).

"Token" in name

As of VOW rules change, all tokens named only by their types now have "Token" in the name; this doesn't apply to Tokens given an explicit name. (Added to prevent people naming "Blood" from the split card and including Blood tokens apparently.) So technically a lot of token names here are incorrect :P Personally I don't think it's reasonable to include the word in every name in the table; it's repetitive. If someone was going to take the time, perhaps a new column with a checkmark for "is it named 'Token'", with an explanatory note at the top. Then again, I have trouble justifying the time for maintaining long lists like this, so I'll just start with the note alone.
