Text change vs text adding

The scryfall tagger for text change seems to consider adding abilities (e.g. Honest Work) as text-changing, which in the literal sense is something it's doing. However, the article is largely on effects that modify a word in a text box. Should the title of the article be changed to reflect that, or should the text of the article be expanded to mention adding abilities? Shield (talk) 23:10, 2 January 2026 (UTC)

The title of the article is set by CR 612. ("Text-Changing Effects"), as that's the rule the article is explaining. It should not be changed. As far as I can tell, Honest Work is a text-changing effect because it modifies the card name per CR 612.8 ("Some cards create a continuous effect that sets the name of an object. This changes the text that represents the object's name. That object loses any names it had and has only the specified name.") and not because it adds the ability, which would fall under CR 612.3. ("Effects that add or remove abilities don’t change the text of the objects they affect, so any abilities that are granted to an object can’t be modified by text-changing effects that affect that object."). It's also worth remembering that just like the Wiki, Scryfall's Tagger is community run and can have mistakes in it. Having said all that, I think this article could use some expanding to better reflect the full scope of CR 612. -- RivalRowan (talk) 00:39, 3 January 2026 (UTC)
