Coal Golem edit

Is Brellis really a place? Coal Golem (The Dark) flavor text ends with: "—Lydia, Countess Brellis". I've never seen a title referring to a place to be formed this way, without the word "of" preceding it. I tried to search for examples, but haven't found any without "of" and still being about the place (though I also haven't found any starting with the first name, like in the flavor text). Still, I suspect it might actually be a character: "Countess Lydia Brellis", as in [title] [name] [surname], switched around, so that they could put her name in the first spot, give it more emphasis, which then forced this unusual form. Or maybe, in-world, Lydia wrote to someone with whom she was on the first-name basis and it's less formal that way. And while I can also see how this could be a mistake, a misprint, you'd think they would add the missing "of" when the card was reintroduced, if it really was a place: Coal Golem (Masters Edition III). From the 18th century the practice developed of simply adding the grantee’s surname (imitating a style of the 11th–12th centuries, when, for example, the Earl of Buckingham was styled Earl Giffard), so that the style of the Earl of Place-name was now supplemented by that of Earl Surname.

'Earl' being equivalent to 'count', I found a bit of historical context for the count-surname usage. Ontos (talk) 02:21, 29 October 2025 (UTC)

I agree with this reasoning, and am removing it. If anyone can find more information about either Lydia or Brellis, feel free to come back with a better citation. Corveroth (talk) 04:23, 29 October 2025 (UTC)
