Discard/destroy

Cards that had said "discard" changed to destroy (for example Black Lotus)

I don't know what the errata did to Black Lotus (which didn't exist in Revised), but some sacrifice effects still say "discard". See for example Balance. Thrawcheld (talk) 19:54, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

In the Oracle text, Balance is in fact instructing players to discard down to equal hand sizes. The phrasing is odd, but that's definitely what it does (compare to the original printed text: "equalize the cards in hand"). So, no, you should not find any modern sacrifice effects that say "discard". The original Black Lotus text was "Adds 3 mana of any single color of your choice to your mana pool, then is discarded". Revised updated it so something like the tap-and-sacrifice wording we know today. --Corveroth (talk) 20:20, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
Sorry, my meaning was unclear. I meant that the Revised wording says "discard" meaning "sacrifice". I wasn't thinking of current Oracle wording (which is irrelevant to this section). The link I posted above is specifically the Revised version. It isn't changed to "sacrifice" until Fourth Edition. Thrawcheld (talk) 04:39, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
I suspect that Balance uses that wording as a consequence of the weird templating. Are there other Revised Edition cards that used "discard" in that manner? --Corveroth (talk) 04:43, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
