Old talk

I've already run into a grey area. Are the promotional cards rare? Should they be on this page? --GeoMike 15:22, 29 November 2007 (GMT)

mmm... promos... it feels to me that the terms "rare card" and "promotional card" overlap and/or are verisimilar. MM (talk!) 14:26, 1 December 2007 (GMT)
agrees but they should be listed together - we just need to get a better word then "rare" cards. --GeoMike 14:33, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
I'd like to suggest a change in the name. "rare" can make false impression that it's about rare cards. Maybe "unique", or so would be better...??? --MORT (T) 19:07, 29 November 2007 (GMT)
Unique means one of a kind, doesn't it? Trying to think of a better word, myself... --GeoMike 19:30, 29 November 2007 (GMT)
"List of card rarities"? --GeoMike 19:41, 29 November 2007 (GMT)
... sounds better. Perhaps a bit long and hard to search for. Of course, that's where redirects might come in. Another solution is to add, like, an introductory sentence emphasising the intent of this article - to, what, list rarities or something. I also agree with MORT; it is somewhat deceiving, "rare" - is it rare as in rarity (Autochthon Wurm - lol); hard to hunt down (like... a full set of cards from Legends, Homelands, or whatever that old set is called - can't remember); or simply promotional (Dimir Guildmage)? MM (talk!) 14:26, 1 December 2007 (GMT)
I'm feeling many redirects coming along, if this page is to exist. Otherwise it will be broken down to many small pages for each heading currently listed. But I like the big list so redirects are coming eventually. --GeoMike 14:33, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

(My stance on redirects: Redirects are a tad annoying. I personally don't like "Redirected from [bleh].", but that's me.) A lot of pages need consideration with moves now; most notably, "Core Set". I don't know why it's capitalized, nor do I know why it shouldn't be. Ahhhhghhwhh, the dilemma. We should discuss page names somewhere. To the MTG Salvation Wiki:Administrators' noticeboard/admin noticeboard? (Heh.) MM (talk!) 14:59, 1 December 2007 (GMT)

I, on the other side, think that redirects are very useful ang good thing. ;-) --MORT (T) 17:50, 1 December 2007 (GMT)
Mana Crypt wasn't reprinted in Time Spiral; Arena was. I'm not sure which one the article means was "most famous."--Filby 20:40, 29 November 2007 (GMT)
My mistake --GeoMike 20:42, 29 November 2007 (GMT)

Token (cards)

Should tokens be on this list? --GeoMike 00:54, 3 December 2007 (GMT)

I think that they should be, especially if they are alternate art - Subsections: League Tokens, Judge Program Tokens (Spyderdunn (talk) 04:00, 21 December 2013 (UTC))

Table of Contents

With the addition of the Shichifukujin Dragon.jpg image, the TOC looks all off now. Do we have a template to force the TOC into "hide" mode? --GeoMike 04:25, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Curse of Nazir

Um, the card "Curse of Nazir" doesn't actually exist. That was a joke by MaRo.--Filby 20:41, 29 November 2007 (GMT)

I think this page and the "List of rare cards" page should be consolidated maybe simply under the "Promotional cards" title (since I think they are best known by this title). I really don't see a reason to keep these two pages separated. Afterwards I'll add a "Judge Rewards" section. --HazardShesek 22:52, 5 June 2008 (PDT)

I agree they should be merged. I'll work on it soon... --GeoMike 16:13, 6 June 2008 (PDT)
Done --GeoMike 18:42, 6 June 2008 (PDT)

Event cards - GP, PT, Worlds cards?

Should the section on event cards be expanded to include what the GP reprint promos are? Or a link to librarities? Idle_Muse 11:45, 7 June 2008 (PDT).

It was an oversight, you can add anything to this page that is a promotional card. This page can get long. I envision the sections getting a little smaller with full-length articles (Apac lands for example) via see also templates. --GeoMike 16:04, 7 June 2008 (PDT)
I added a little bit on the two GP cards that have been released to date. Anyone know if the Call of the Herd was given away elsewhere, as I have a feeling it was? Idle_Muse 00:17, 10 June 2008 (BST)

Happy Holidays Promos

Shouldn't the Happy Holidays Promos Fruitcake Elemental & Gifts Given be mentioned somewhere here? --Sloth 15 July 2008

Yes, if you have information on them. --GeoMike 12:54, 15 July 2008 (EDT)

Rename; break down

List of promotional [Magic] cards.

Use {{Main}}. Break down article. Contain less stuff. --Magic Mage (talk!) 06:16, 8 November 2012 (EST)

Black on black

Shall we treat the black on black planeswalkers as promos (and where would they fit) or as a special set? --Hunter61 (talk) 07:12, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

  • I'd say as promotional cards.--GeoMike (talk) 10:55, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

When updating is appropriate

When is it appropriate to add new information? Does it need to be released, or can it be added when considered "confirmed" by non-WotC sources? BTW, linked this page as a reference source from the MTGS Rumor Mill's Upcoming Promo's Thread. --Spyderdunn 16 December 2013

  • I think you can do it when they are considered confirmed. We don't have a strict spoiler policy like some other wiki's --Hunter61 (talk) 15:13, 16 December 2013 (UTC)

Thorn Elemental

The 7th Edition/2-Player Starter Set came with a foil Thorn Elemental. I don't know where to put it. --Hunter61 (talk) 12:35, 17 December 2013 (UTC)

  • That seems similar to the 'Holiday Gift Box' foils from this year and last. Or even the alt art cards in the Duel Decks. All should be grouped together, I'm thinking. Gravy Reprints? (the good stuff that you only get when coupled with something else - really needs a term...) --Spyderdunn 17 December 2013
  • New category - "Intra-product promos"? Functional but not catchy. (Spyderdunn (talk) 06:03, 20 December 2013 (UTC))
    • More like "product extras" or "product connected Promos"? --Hunter61 (talk) 06:31, 20 December 2013 (UTC)
      • "Extras" feels wrong, "Product-connected promos" sounds best so far. I dropped an e-mail to WotC to see if they have an internal name for these (they're on vacation though...) (Spyderdunn (talk) 03:17, 21 December 2013 (UTC))

Robot Chicken

The promotional card "Robot Chicken" seems to be missing from the list. KingSupernova (talk) 16:18, 4 May 2015 (UTC)

  • As I understand, it is not an official card. But feel free to make an entry --Hunter (talk) 04:21, 5 May 2015 (UTC)

http://www.magiclibrarities.net/798-rarities-special-guest-gift-cards-english-cards-index.html

What do you mean by official card? The happy holidays cards, 1996 World Champion, etc are not official magic cards, but they still have an entry. KingSupernova (talk) 05:09, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
It 's a sticker glued on a card. :-) But go ahead --Hunter (talk) 05:29, 5 May 2015 (UTC)

Ugin's Fate

The Ugin's Fate promos seem to be missing. Is that just an oversight or is there a reason? KingSupernova (talk) 09:35, 1 December 2015 (UTC)

An oversight; but they are listed on the Fate Reforged page, so maybe a link suffices? --Hunter (talk) 10:15, 1 December 2015 (UTC)

Card links

Question. How to point the cardlinks for grand prix cards to the right scryfall page? --Hunter (talk) 06:28, 5 May 2018 (UTC)

Unfortunately, the fix by 199.233.74.249 doesn't seem to work. --Hunter (talk) 15:04, 9 May 2018 (UTC)

The card that doesn't work in the rules

Fan-made emblem

I remember a rule from the 3rd edition manual that was more or less like this: "If a card contradicts the rules, the card has priority".

On the other hand, I know that according to a more recent rule, cards cannot activate abilities from the library.

This is just an idea to make the "1996 World Champion" playable... and therefore reprintable.

From the imagination of a fan (Abacos)

* ERRATA CORRIGE: Before playing, search your library for 1996 World Champion and reveal it to your opponent: you get an emblem with..." (the emblem in the picture to the right).
* Shroud (not to be confused with hexproof)
* 1996 World Champion has power and toughness equal to the life total of target opponent.

After all, Ante cards (Scryfall.com) have a "before playing" rule. --Abacos (talk) 13:37, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
