Phasing vs Phasing

Because modern cards don't use the phasing ability, but the overall concept and rules for objects phasing out is also called phasing, I think I'd like to rearrange some of this article to emphasize general mechanic first, ability second. Infobox can remain the same, but might add "miscellaneous mechanic" category on top of the "keyword ability" category too. Any objections speak now or forever phase out - jerodast (talk) 22:27, 26 January 2022 (UTC)

Storyline

Wasn't there like a storyline section for phasing here before (could be years, back in the MtgSalvation days, but still)? Mention of Teferi, Shiv, Zhalfir...

I was probably not active at that time, although I do know that SOMEWHERE it mentions/ed phasing representing things displaced out of time, maybe in Mirage notes or elsewhere set-specific...unfortunately it's a lot easier to binary search for the point in the page history where something was added that's STILL HERE, but not so easy for something that may have been added then removed. - jerodast (talk) 00:23, 29 January 2022 (UTC)

Phasing vs Unearth

Since Phasing doesn't involve leaving the battlefield how does it interact with the Unearth next endstep trigger in the permanent is phased out?

This is a similar question to Phasing vs Echo. The updated (2020) ruling for Old Fogey says that Echo basically has no effect because it would be phased out at the time the payment+sacrifice trigger goes off, so I would guess the same is true for a card with Unearth that gets phased out. I agree it would be nice if they clarified this in the rules - either "Any delayed triggered abilities that look for a permanent to meet a condition will lose track of that permanent if it becomes phased out, so the delayed triggered ability will never trigger, even if the permanent phases back in and later meets the condition." or "Any delayed triggered abilities that look for a permanent to meet a condition will lose track of that permanent if it becomes phased out, but are able to track the permanent and be able to trigger if the conditions are met after the permanent phases back in." I suspect it would be the former. - jerodast (talk) 04:52, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
