Talk:List of professional players in the Pro Points era

Randy Buehler isn't mentioned as part of the Hall of Fame, and there's no mention of it in his personal page. He was a member of the class of 2007. That should be amended. Instead of trying to figure out how the editing interface works, I'm just going to write this note.

It's just an oversight. Fixing. --Sene (talk) 15:42, 23 December 2017 (UTC)

Deprecation

This would have been interesting to update back in the day, but seeing as the last real update was PT Rivals (it doesn't have PT Dominaria or PT25A) it's nearly ten years and a huge overhaul of the system. A few options:

  • Update to everything. Doesn't seem practical without some sort of data scraping, and half the columns are defunct.
  • Update to the end of 2018 with 25th anniversary. The system is too different after it, but then the page becomes an artifact.
  • Update to 2018 and continue from 2023. I don't like this because the events in between are still legitimate, and the GP and Pro Point columns remain defunct.

I recognize that it'd most likely be only Hunter or I who have enough investment in updating this, which means we're the best ones to make the call. Shield (talk) 22:28, 28 April 2025 (UTC)

I would choose option 2. I don't know if it is feasible to construct a newer list (starting in 2019), and on what basis. Maybe all players with a Top Finish? (and participants in the MPL / RL?) --Hunter (talk) 11:41, 30 November 2025 (UTC)
Sene unfortunately abandoned his work on professional play because he was disappointed when the system was overthrown. He is still sorely missed. I just picked up the work because he was gone, not because I'm particular invested in professional play. I mostly do it for the benefit of the wiki --Hunter (talk) 11:47, 30 November 2025 (UTC)
Rechecking the history it seems Sene did end up adding data up til PT Guilds, which means there isn't much need to update this. Some data might be incorrect, but that's a difficult project to undertake. I would imagine a newer list has problems with notability: most PT Champion pages are sparse as is, and one top finish would produce lots of stub pages. I'd left some ideas on the main policy page but I haven't had the inclination to move forward with it. Shield (talk) 03:31, 1 December 2025 (UTC)
Fair enough --Hunter (talk) 05:15, 1 December 2025 (UTC)
Agreed with the change - which seems to have occurred - to have this be a capped historical list. In terms of Pro Player coverage on the wiki there is certainly a lot of work to be done (clearly, as this is my primary focus currently) but creating/expanding individual profile pages is probably one of the best ways to go about this. There's sites like Gathering Stats (an amazing resource) which have the list functionality already: we don't need to duplicate that. Beatsandskies (talk) 07:42, 1 December 2025 (UTC)
