Engender?

"but his implacable determination and work ethic have engendered him to both his peers and Strixhaven’s faculty." What is this supposed to mean? To engender means to produce, to bring into existence. Maybe the correct word was embittered? Alienated? --Kumagoro42 (talk) 11:46, 15 April 2021 (UTC)

  • The line is taken from the Carter introductory article, but I agree it doesn't make sense. Maybe they first wrote that he engendered antipathy...? The context of the sentence makes me agree that "alienated" would be the right word here. --Hunterofsalvation (talk) 12:56, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
    • How would "implacable determination and work ethic" alienate him from others? Those are positive traits. I think the word that we're looking for is endeared which means 'caused to be loved or liked'. AryehRex (talk) 14:20, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
      • Funny discussion this :-) I read it as "he looks nice, but ...." --Hunterofsalvation (talk) 14:31, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
      • Positive traits, but it reads as intimidating for a student in the cohort: they'll do better than you and you know it's because they're working harder. Alternatively or additionally, they alienate themselves because they're working rather than socialising. That said, adding the faculty context suggests it's the positive, unless the faculty also consider low socialising bad. 220.238.226.31 21:17, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
        • The latest Magic Story settle this, I think. It must have been "endeared". --Hunterofsalvation (talk) 06:03, 1 May 2021 (UTC)

Appearance

It bothers me that the key art seems to depict a completly other person than the card art. The latter has Asian characteristics, the former doesn't --Hunterofsalvation (talk) 17:57, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
