Plural can be Elk or Elks (see wikipedia). So why not use the more standard plural? - Yandere-sliver (talk) 04:11, 6 July 2025 (UTC)
- I don't see data there or at wikt:Elk regarding the frequency of usage. Given that both are apparently valid, I think we can just retain it under MOS:STYLERET. Corveroth (talk) 06:57, 6 July 2025 (UTC)
- Despite listing both, the article only uses "elk" in its text because it is significantly more common. Besides that, the game of Magic uses "elk:" see Gang of Elk. I don't see why we would make this change. RudleyDudley (talk) 01:51, 7 July 2025 (UTC)
- I think a better graph to make your point is to focus on plural constructions. Even then, aside from a spike around 1925, the plural without the "s" is more common at every point throughout the last two centuries. (I would love to know the cause of that smaller spike in the 1980s.) Corveroth (talk) 03:44, 7 July 2025 (UTC)
- Ah. All of the "of elks" activity appears to be connected to this organization, rather than the animal. The 1920s included the creation and dedication of their headquarters building post-WWI, and in the 1980s, they got some buzz for launching an anti-drug campaign. So, yes, the "elks" plural is rarely used to describe the ungulate. Corveroth (talk) 03:53, 7 July 2025 (UTC)
